Professional Hedge Trimming

A well-maintained hedge does far more than mark a boundary. It provides privacy, structure and a defined frame for your outdoor space, and when it is left untouched it quickly becomes unmanageable, unruly and difficult to bring back into shape.

We carry out hedge trimming for domestic customers throughout Oxford, handling hedges of all sizes, species and conditions. Whether your hedge needs a routine seasonal cut or has been left to grow unchecked for several years, we have the equipment and the experience to get it back under control.

Hedge Trimming Vs Reduction: What’s The Difference?

A standard trim removes the new seasonal growth from the surface of the hedge, keeping it at its current size and maintaining a neat, even shape. This is what most hedges need at least once or twice a year to stay looking their best.

Hedge reduction is a different process entirely. It involves cutting the hedge back beyond the current season's growth, often by a significant amount, using chainsaws to work through thicker, more established stems. This is the right approach when a hedge has outgrown its space, is blocking light or has become too large for routine maintenance tools to handle effectively.

Our Process…

When you get in touch, we will arrange to visit the site and take a look at the hedge before providing a quote. This allows us to assess the species, size, condition and access, all of which affect the time and method required.

On the day of the work, we arrive with professional-grade tools suited to the size and type of hedge being cut. We cut methodically to achieve a straight, even line on the top and sides, working to the shape and height you want.

Once the trimming is complete, we clear all cuttings and debris from your property. All waste is removed from site or processed through our wood chipping service, leaving your garden clean and tidy.

Hedge Species & Timing

Different hedge species have different growth rates and different requirements, and the best time to trim depends on what you are growing. Formal hedges such as box, yew and privet typically benefit from cutting once or twice a year, whilst fast-growing species such as Leylandii and other conifers may need more frequent attention to keep them from getting out of hand.

It is also important to be aware that hedge trimming during bird nesting season (which generally runs from March to August) needs to be approached carefully. Active nests must not be disturbed under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, so if nesting activity is evident when we arrive to carry out the work, we will advise you on the right course of action before proceeding.

Tackling Overgrown Hedges
In Oxford

An overgrown hedge is one of the most common requests we receive. If your hedge has spread well beyond its intended boundary or grown to a height that feels imposing, a reduction can bring it back to a manageable size without removing it altogether.

Many hedge species, including hawthorn, beech and hornbeam, respond well to significant cutting back and will re-shoot healthily from older wood when the work is done correctly. We can advise you on what is possible for your particular hedge species before any work begins, so you have a clear picture of the likely result.

All Waste Removed

All our hedge trimming work is carried out by insured professionals, giving you full peace of mind throughout. We use specific equipment appropriate to the scale of the job, and we never leave a site without clearing up beforehand.

If your hedges need attention and you would like a straightforward, honest quote from a local team that takes pride in tidy work, contact us today and we will arrange a convenient time to visit.
